Dear Blue Jay families,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!

Since joining Bryn Mawr in 2013 I have been so very fortunate to be part of an amazing school and staff dedicated to growing our students academically, emotionally, and socially.  While we have seen changes in education in recent years, I am happy to say the strong partnership with our students, parents, and community members has remained constant.  It is the basis on which we build our success, and on which we continue to grow together as a community of learners.  This formula for success helped us achieve the designation of California Distinguished School in 2018, and I know even greater things are in store for our Blue Jay community!

The social, emotional, AND academic growth of our students is paramount along with their health and safety.  To that end, we implemented the Leader in Me (R) system during the 2019-20 school year, and have since been on a journey of equipping our students with the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" mindset.  We are confident that equipping our students with skills will contribute to their personal and interpersonal success wherever they are in life, whether in TK-12 school, college, work place, home or community.

This year students will focus on identifying Wildly Important Goals (WIGs) for themselves, and tracking progress in individual Leadership Notebooks.  Based on the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People," our entire staff continues to receive training to build leadership capacity in students, and to "see the genius" in every child.  We look forward to creating a culture where students understand that change and leadership begins with each one of them, that they are empowered to plan and achieve all their goals.

I look forward to another great year of working to see students grow in their wisdom and kindness toward others, and become prepared to take the next steps towards their futures filled with great potential and limitless possibilities.  I am so proud of each one of our Blue Jays, and believe greatly in their being able to go forward to impact our world in positive ways.

If you have any questions or needs, please feel free to contact me at school.

Mr. Aleksak

Assistant Principal

Dear Blue Jay families,

I am so excited to spend the school year learning and growing alongside all our little Blue Jays. As many of you know, I was a late addition to the team last year, and am looking forward to the 2023-24 school year and building relationships with our families.

I have worked in elementary education since 2002. My first introduction to elementary education was as a parent volunteer, which led to a position as a paraprofessional working with students with exceptional needs. I have taught first, second, fourth and fifth grades as a general education teacher. While teaching online during the pandemic, I earned my administrative credential and served as the Early Childhood Education Coordinator for the district, as well as an assistant principal at Redlands eAcademy. In April of 2023 I was relocated to Bryn Mawr to help support staff and students as we closed out the year.

I am a Bay Area native and have a deep love and appreciation for diversity, equity, and inclusivity. I believe we all add value to our community, and this is at the core of who I am as a person and as an educator.

Mr. Aleksak and I work closely together with the staff and families to create a safe and welcoming school community.

I look forward to an amazing school year!

In Partnership,

Mary Pirritano

Assistant Principal
